Working In Construction

Is it for you? Being on a project site is where all the action is – it’s definitely not a traditional office setting! It’s fast-paced, ever-changing and consistently challenging your knowledge and practical hands-on ability. There is no design involved, as there is a very specific plan drawn up to execute. Given the shorter construction season, there are longer hours to be worked to get the job done, and with weather always being unpredictable, you will be subjected to various environmental elements. At Dufferin Construction, we work hard and play hard. You will become part of a great team and have a hand in building a landmark project that can be big or small, with a company that has carved out a solid and safe reputation in the construction industry.

“Each day on the job brings with it a new challenge or problem to overcome and with the support of my team we are able to tackle any issues that may arise. Since day one with Dufferin Construction I have been encouraged to learn the industry of heavy civil construction and develop my skills and knowledge of construction management. The structure of Dufferin Construction allows for endless personal growth and I know my possibilities are virtually unlimited. I look forward to growing my career with the organization for many years to come.”

Aaron Toth,
Construction Coordinator, Central District – May 2013 to Present
McMaster University, Civil Engineering Graduate

Concrete Tobaggan Race

Since 2009, Dufferin Construction has been an event and team sponsor of the annual Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race (GNCTR). This event encourages today’s civil engineering students at the university level to participate in the race by creating and racing a toboggan that demonstrates sustainability in their design and construction. For this, we award the Dufferin Sustainable Concrete Toboggan Prize( formerly Holcim Sustainable Concrete Toboggan Prize), which also comes with a $1500 cash bonus.

This event has not only generated awareness to sustainable construction practices, but has also showcased Dufferin Construction and CRH Canada Group Inc. as respected companies that serve various parts of the country. As a company that believes in working hard and playing hard, in 2010 Dufferin Construction won the “Best Non-Competing Team” prize at the event, going up against alumni and other corporate teams.

We are proud to be longtime supporters of this wonderful event. We welcome the opportunity to interact with our peers and the bright students currently studying civil engineering. Becoming known and recognized by the top civil engineers of tomorrow will reinforce the high standards of our company brand and bring us to mind when they are looking for future employment, or deciding what products to use in their respective projects.
